Description
On a perfectly warm day in late July, the uniquely blue waters of Moraine Lake in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada, sparkle in the sunshine. Marcy and I decided to take a canoe ride, and with a bit of trepidation, I carry along my camera. A glacier is visible in the background and we hear the sound of rushing water in the distance where run-off from a glacial stream pours in. People have asked, "Is the water really this color?" Yes, it is - Rock particles, called "glacial flour", finely ground by the glaciers help tinge the water. Once in the water, the particles produce "glacial milk" and Moraine Lake in Canada is one of the foremost places in the world to enjoy the resulting coloration.
