Description
Ostensibly, we would travel to Southwestern Montana to enjoy the wonders of Yellowstone National Park. However, I think the true joys are to be found in the meadows and plains outside the park. We met this red-winged blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) near Highway 191 as it follows the picturesque Gallatin River. He was upset that we invaded his mate's nesting territory and was persistent in flying up then circling to distract our attention away from their nest. Red-wing blackbirds such as this one are only occasional visitors to our home in Tennessee but were abundant in their summer nesting area near the waterways on these Montana plains.
Doug and Marcy Wielfaert are a husband and wife team located in Tennessee near the Great Smoky Mountains. Our home range certainly colors our portfolio, but we love traveling across the country and around the globe to capture scenes like this one. We would be honored if you would “like”, “favorite” or comment on this image, doing so helps increase our search engine rankings.
