With the Cumberland Mountains rising above, The Powell Valley stretches from Wise County, Va., through the Cumberland Gap and then into Eastern Tennessee along the Powell River.
On a winter day trip through this beautiful region, we encountered these mules. They trotted up to us quickly, and seemed very glad to interact with a bit of mule-talk along with some ear-scratching. They seemed sad to have us leave them.
Doug and Marcy Wielfaert are a husband and wife team located in Tennessee near the Great Smoky Mountains.
