We departed our East Tennessee home on a dreary, late February morning, and pointed our car toward the Smoky Mountains to the east anticipating a great long-weekend photoshoot in Savannah, Georgia. The air was raw and cold, but as we traveled south through South Carolina, we watch the sky clear as the temperatures clicked up degree-by-degree. By the time we reached the Savannah River, we were treated to a perfect, warm, still Southern United States spring afternoon. Our first stop was the Savannah Wildlife Refuge which gave us a wealth of image opportunities including these lily pads that had faded from their summer green to beautiful pastels against the still waters of the estuary. I rendered this image with a touch of acrylic digital enhancement to bring out the beautiful colors, but the water and lilies are so very close to what we saw that day.
Doug and Marcy Wielfaert are a husband and wife team located in Tennessee near the Great Smoky Mountains. Our home range certainly colors our portfolio, but we love traveling across the country and around the globe to capture scenes like this one.
