Description
We visited Palmer Chapel in the Cataloochee section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Autumn, as a soft rain tapped the sound of polite applause on the metal roof. I was alone. Marcy was capturing images outside and most other park visitors had collected in their vehicles to see the elk gathering in the meadow next to the church. I pulled up my camera to compose a shot, but then I forgot pictures as I reflected on the circuit riding preachers who came here to exhort the faithful. Near the pulpit was an old, but familiar hymnal. I turned to one of my favorites and sang aloud, creating my own choir as my voice echoed against the solid wooden walls. Before I left, I turned the pages of the Bible to Lamentations Chapter 3, which contains one of my favorite scriptures and read about God's faithfulness. It was a good evening.
