A highlight of our visit to Greece was a day cruise to the islands of Hydra, Poros and Aegina (or Egina). The cruises sail from the Athens port of Piraeus, and give the traveler an hour or two on each island to sightsee, shop or dine. In my mind, I ticked off a long list of things that made this outing a “must” for tourists. First, to say that the islands are colorful seems trite – somehow the bright spring sky made the blues and whites even more beautiful. Secondly, the Island of Hydra with its “Donkey Only” transportation system was unexpectedly charming. Thirdly, the sights and history are rich and compelling. I can continue to enumerate, but I will just add that the experience was a feast for the eyes and certainly a rich harvest for a photographer like me.

Doug and Marcy Wielfaert are a husband and wife team located in Tennessee near the Great Smoky Mountains.
